SCDC Dillon Release Routes

A Dillon County General Sessions sentence can commit a person to SCDC. The person may wait at Dillon County Detention Center before transport, but SCDC becomes the custody authority after admission. Classification can place a Dillon-committed prisoner at any suitable institution. The current Location field, not county geography, shows where the person is held.

State-prison release can mean maxout of the custodial term, parole where legally available, probation-related release, supervised reentry, or another status stated by SCDC. Preserve the exact label. “Discharged” should be used only when a record shows all applicable incarceration and supervision have ended. A prison exit can lead to SCDPPPS supervision, so physical release and sentence completion are not always the same event.

Search Current SCDC Custody

The SCDC current-search disclaimer defines a narrow scope. The search covers people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC, with public data current through midnight of the previous day. It excludes released SCDC inmates, county detainees, people solely under parole or probation, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives. An absent name does not prove a Dillon County release.

1. Accept the official disclaimer and search by SCDC number when available, or use the exact name.
2. Reconcile the result with age, admission, committing county, offense, and identifier.
3. Open the detail and read Location, Offender Type, Admission Date, sentence data, and projected fields.
4. If absent, move to the released search and other custodians instead of declaring release.

A detail can show a photograph and Picture Date. That image identifies the record but may not reflect current appearance. PROJECTED RELEASE DATE is an estimate based on sentence type and continued credit earning, not a completed release.

Find Released SCDC Inmates

The SCDC Released Inmate List is the correct state tool after prison release. It is separate from the current search and is not Dillon County's local jail feed. Match the SCDC number and name, capture the exact release date and type, and compare the Dillon sentencing case. If the application offers committing-county controls, DILLON or county code 17 is a state-commitment filter.

A released-list match is stronger than a miss from current search. It proves the SCDC event only. Check SCDPPPS if the label or sentence suggests parole, community supervision, intensive supervision, or supervised reentry. For a disputed identity or date, request the movement and release record from SCDC.

SCDC Records and Contact

SCDC policy identifies the Inmate Records Office as custodian of the official inmate record from admission through release. Formal public-record requests route through the Office of General Counsel. Include full name, SCDC ID or SID, date range, and exact records sought. Useful items include the public face sheet, movement history, actual release authorization and date, release type, commitment and discharge information, and any disclosable identification image.

At the research date, posted rates were ten cents per black-and-white hardcopy page, twenty-five cents per color page, and $18.95 per hour for search, retrieval, and redaction. Ask for electronic production and an estimate. The inmate information line is 1-866-727-2846. Public-data errors may go to Ombudsman@doc.sc.gov.

Dillon Has No SCDC Prison

The SCDC institution directory lists the statewide system and does not place a prison in Dillon County:

This is an agency directory capture, not a prison photograph. It explains why a person sentenced in Dillon County can be housed elsewhere. Do not assume an institution in a neighboring county is Dillon's assigned prison. SCDC controls placement.

For current custody, the detail's Location field controls. After release, movement history and the released record matter more than the county where the case began. The Dillon Public Index supplies sentence context but does not replace SCDC's physical custody record.

Dillon Release Date Fields

SCDC distinguishes projected dates from actual release. PROJECTED RELEASE DATE estimates when incarcerated terms may be satisfied if credits continue at the present rate. PROJECTED PAROLE ELIGIBILITY marks a different milestone, not a promise. Credit loss, an amended order, a detainer, jail-credit correction, or the relation between sentences may change the estimate.

Discharge

Completion of the applicable legal term when the agency uses that status.

For a completed event, use the released list or official record. SCDC's calculator calls its output a general, earliest-case guideline and cannot calculate an already-sentenced inmate's actual date. Sentence questions go to Inmate Records at 803-896-8531.

SCDC Release and Supervision

SCDPPPS is a separate agency. Its search covers current community supervision, not incarceration and not every person who completed a sentence. A positive result may show parole, probation, community supervision, or another named program. No result cannot prove that the person was not released.

Use the Dillon SCDPPPS office when online status conflicts with the prison record or needs same-day confirmation. The public supervision search reflects the prior day. Keep exact labels such as PROBATION, INTENSIVE SUPV, and SUPV RE-ENTRY. The Dillon County released-inmate search separates local detention, state prison, and supervision.

Verify SCDC Dillon Discharge

A sound check connects four records. Match the released entry to the person. Review the Dillon disposition and sentence. Search SCDPPPS for current supervision. Request the SCDC movement record when the precise type, date, or destination matters.

VINE can add a status-change notice but is not a discharge certificate. BOP and ICE cover different custodians. Dillon County Detention Center remains the source for an ordinary local release that never became an SCDC admission. These boundaries keep one database miss from becoming a false claim about the whole custody history.

Note: Preserve the record date and recheck an official source when an event is recent because updates can lag.

SCDC Public Record Timing

South Carolina FOIA generally allows ten business days for an initial determination on records no more than 24 months old and twenty business days for older records. Production generally follows within 30 calendar days, or 35 days for older material, after determination and any allowed deposit, unless extended in writing. Exempt parts may be redacted.

Ask for the legal basis of withholding. A concise request lowers search time and identity risk. State the SCDC number, Dillon committing case, and narrow date range. A saved search screen is useful, but it is not the same as an official record from the custodian.
