Dillon County Release Records
A person has left Dillon County custody when the detention center records a final movement out of its control. That movement may be a community release, but it may also be transport to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. The safest first description is “left Dillon County custody.” Use “released to the community” only when the jail entry, VINE event, court-linked record, or agency confirmation supports it.
No single document covers every Dillon County released inmate. The Dillon County Detention Center maintains the booking and final custody event. The deciding court records the bond, disposition, sentence, or later order. SCDC keeps state-prison incarceration and discharge information. SCDPPPS records active parole, probation, community supervision, and related statuses. Each source answers a different question, so a complete result often joins two or more records.
- Release
- Departure from one custodian, which may be to the community or another agency.
- Discharge
- Completion of the applicable custody or supervision term shown by the responsible agency.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to take custody.
- Time served
- A sentence satisfied by time already spent in confinement.
Dillon County Release Routes
The route out determines which record carries the most weight. Bond and recognizance permit a person to leave while a case continues. A dismissal, not-guilty result, time-served order, or completed local sentence may end the charge-related hold. A state sentence can instead cause transport to SCDC. An outside warrant, federal process, or immigration hold can send the person to another custodian without any period of freedom.
| Route | Meaning | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial release under court terms | Dillon booking-out entry and bond docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | Local term has ended | Final jail movement and sentencing record |
| Dismissal or not guilty | That charge no longer supports custody | Court disposition plus jail confirmation |
| SCDC transfer | State custody begins elsewhere | SCDC current offender record |
| Outside transfer | Another county, federal, or immigration agency receives custody | Destination field and receiving locator |
| Parole or supervised reentry | Physical release with a continuing legal status | SCDC release entry and SCDPPPS search |
Death can also end a custody listing, and a data correction can change a roster. Neither should be described as release. A missing name alone proves none of these paths.
Dillon County Release Record Fields
A useful request asks for the full booking record and its last custody event, not a staff opinion about whether someone is “free.” The record should be tied to a full name, date of birth or booking number, booking date range, and case number when known. Fields vary, and the custodian may redact protected information, but the following items distinguish release from transfer.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking or admission | The custody episode being reviewed |
| Charges and case number | The legal matters tied to that booking |
| Final movement date and time | When Dillon custody physically ended |
| Release type or reason | Bond, order, time served, completion, or other recorded basis |
| Releasing authority | The court or official basis for the action |
| Destination or custodian | Community departure versus agency transfer |
| Bond details | Terms related to a pretrial release |
| Booking photograph | The image associated with that custody event, if disclosable |
A court order proves what a judge directed. It does not always prove when detention staff carried out the order or whether another hold remained. Likewise, a VINE alert is useful notice but is not the underlying administrative record.
Request Dillon County Release Records
No dedicated Dillon sheriff FOIA form or local fee schedule was found. Send a narrow written request to Detention Director Sarah Samuel at the Dillon County Detention Center, 1027 Old Latta Highway, Dillon, SC 29536, or ssamuel@dillonsheriff.org. The detention telephone is 843-774-1435. Ask for electronic delivery and a cost estimate before charges accrue.
- Identify the person with full name, date of birth if known, booking date range, and booking or case number.
- Request the booking sheet, booking-in/out report, final custody movement, actual exit date and time, release reason, releasing authority, bond, and destination or receiving custodian.
- Request the booking photograph separately because image disclosure, sealing, and reproduction issues may differ.
- Ask the office to state the legal basis for each withheld or redacted part.
- Compare the response with the Dillon Public Index and any receiving agency record.
South Carolina FOIA gives an initial determination period of ten business days for records no more than 24 months old and twenty business days for older records. After determination and any deposit, production is generally due within 30 calendar days, or 35 days for older material, unless extended in writing. A deposit may not exceed 25 percent. Search, retrieval, and redaction must use the lowest-paid qualified employee. Dillon has not published a local schedule, so request an estimate rather than assuming a fee.
The May 2026 county schedule, item CO-18-18, describes inmate records that include release date, who and how released, bond, and booking in/out reports, with ten-year retention after release. Dillon may use an approved agency-specific schedule, so the custodian must confirm which schedule controls.
Dillon County Release Record Law
South Carolina FOIA treats agency-held records as public unless an exemption applies. Jail files may mix open administrative facts with medical, victim, investigative, security, or juvenile information. The agency can redact an exempt part while producing the rest. The statute also calls for records identifying people confined during the preceding three months to be available during business hours without a written request, subject to exemptions.
Release does not erase a case, and expungement is not automatic. Only a qualifying legal process can seal, destroy, or restrict covered records.
Section 17-1-40 addresses arrest records and photographs after qualifying expungement, including special sealed retention rules. Section 17-1-60 targets pay-to-remove booking-record practices and creates a no-fee removal or revision process for specified outcomes. Physical release by itself does not trigger either remedy.
Dillon County Bond-Out Proof
Dillon County Bond Court operates at the Old Latta Highway judicial complex. A magistrate can set bail, and the docket can show the order and terms. Yet an order is only the legal authorization. The detention center's booking-out record establishes that the required steps were completed and the person actually left county custody. If the name vanishes soon after a hearing, compare both records before drawing a conclusion.
The court and jail sit near each other, but their files are not interchangeable. Ask Bond Court for the order. Ask detention staff for the time, manner, and destination of the physical release.
Correct Dillon Release Errors
Preserve the page, result, or record that appears wrong. For a Dillon jail entry, identify the booking and disputed field to the detention director. For an SCDC record, include the SCDC number, exact field, and source date. The SCDC disclaimer identifies Ombudsman@doc.sc.gov as a data-error route.
The Inmate Records Office remains the official custodian for sentence and release information under SCDC policy OP-21.09. A corrected copied page is not a substitute for an amended agency record.
Find Dillon County Released Inmates
Dillon County has no verified public rolling jail-release feed. A named-person search must follow the custody path instead of relying on commercial jail pages. Start with the last confirmed location and use stable identifiers. A date of birth, booking number, SCDC number, or court case number helps separate people who share a name.
- Call Dillon County Detention Center to ask whether the person remains physically held. If not, ask whether staff can identify release versus transfer.
- Search the Dillon Public Index for bond, disposition, sentencing, and later orders tied to the custody episode.
- If a state sentence or SCDC transfer appears, use the current SCDC search while incarcerated and the separate Released Inmate List after discharge.
- Check SCDPPPS when parole, probation, community supervision, or supervised reentry may follow.
- Use South Carolina VINE for a participating-agency status event or alert, then verify it with the custodian.
- Use BOP or ICE only when the record shows a federal or immigration path.
- Request the final booking and movement record when online tools do not settle the question.
A released person normally leaves a live custody roster. A missing name can also mean transfer, data lag, another hold, death, or identity mismatch.
SCDC Released Inmate Search
The SCDC current-inmate search covers people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in state corrections. Its data are updated through midnight of the prior day. It excludes released inmates, county detainees, people under community supervision, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives. A miss is therefore not a released result.
| Tool or field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Name or SCDC number | Find a current state prisoner | Confirm identity before relying on a match |
| Location | Shows the current SCDC institution | No SCDC prison is located in Dillon County |
| Projected release date | Current estimate if credits continue | Not an actual historical discharge date |
| Released Inmate List | Find an already-released state prisoner | Does not cover Dillon jail releases |
The official current-search scope is visible on the SCDC disclaimer:

That boundary is why an SCDC search must switch to the separate Released Inmate List after discharge. For formal proof, request the public face sheet, release authorization, actual date and type, and movement history from SCDC's FOIA Coordinator at FOIA@doc.sc.gov or P.O. Box 21787, Columbia, SC 29221-1787.
Dillon County Recent Release Search
No official Dillon County 24-hour or 72-hour release view was verified as of August 1, 2026. The county sheriff page has no roster or release link, and the statewide jail administrators directory identifies no facility website. This is an evidence-based absence finding, not a promise that no tool will ever be added.
For same-day facts, call the detention center with the person's name, birth date, and booking details. Then review court events and request the final movement. The Dillon County 24-hour releases fallback explains how to frame a precise one-day request. Do not substitute SCDC's state-prison release list for county jail data.
Dillon Release Court Records
Dillon has three local court layers. General Sessions and Circuit records held through the Clerk of Court cover higher criminal matters. Magistrate and Bond Court handle bail, warrants, and applicable lower-level proceedings. Dillon Municipal Court handles eligible city cases. The Dillon Public Index can preserve charges, bond events, dispositions, sentences, and later orders after a jail entry disappears.
Those entries explain legal cause, not the final custody act. Dillon Police may make an arrest, a judge may order release, and the detention center may carry it out. Request each fact from the office that owns it.
Dillon Post-Release Supervision Search
The SCDPPPS offender search accepts first and last name, SID number, county, and four-digit birth year in supported combinations. Its public data represent the prior day. A positive match can support active community supervision. No result does not prove that a person was never released or supervised, because completed supervision falls out of a current search.
Probation may follow a suspended sentence without a prison stay. Parole is conditional release from incarceration where the law allows it. Community supervision can be the final part of a no-parole sentence. Preserve the exact status label and verify conflicts through the Dillon County SCDPPPS office at 200 South 5th Avenue, 843-774-1026 or 843-627-7106.
Dillon Release Alerts and Transfers
South Carolina VINE covers participating county detention, SCDC, and SCDPPPS records. Search by name or offender number, confirm the reporting agency, and save any release event time. A VINE event is a strong lead, but it can mark departure from one agency rather than freedom from all custody. Register again after a transfer because alerts may not follow the person into a new agency record.
The BOP Inmate Locator is the federal sentenced-prison route and can show a release date with “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” ICE's locator is the next check only when an immigration transfer or detainer is documented. Neither system proves the absence of South Carolina custody, a warrant, or supervision. USMS pretrial custody also has no comparable public released-person locator.
Dillon Custody and Release Sources
Match the source to the agency and time period. One portal cannot answer every Dillon County custody question.
| Source | Still held | After departure |
|---|---|---|
| Dillon detention | Telephone confirmation | Booking-out and final movement record |
| Dillon courts | Pending case and bond events | Disposition, sentence, and later orders |
| SCDC | Current inmate search | Separate Released Inmate List and records request |
| SCDPPPS | Not a jail locator | Current community-supervision status |
| VINE | Participating custody status | Status-change notification requiring confirmation |
| BOP or ICE | System-specific federal custody | System-specific release or recent record |
Dillon County Release Systems
The local detention center is the primary jail, but the Facility Map includes every system needed to trace where a Dillon-linked person went. Each destination has its own record and confirmation route.
- Dillon County Detention Center: local booking, release, and transfer records.
- South Carolina Department of Corrections institutions: statewide custody and discharged-prisoner searches.
- Dillon County summary and municipal courts: bond, disposition, and sentencing records.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: federal sentenced-prison custody and release dates.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention network: documented immigration transfer checks.
- South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, Dillon County office: current community-supervision confirmation.
Dillon Detention Release Context
The official detention page places the center at 1027 Old Latta Highway as a Sheriff's Department division next to the judicial complex. The county reports capacity for up to 200 people and 37 staff.
No SCDC institution appears in Dillon County in the official state directory. A state-sentenced person may therefore leave the county jail for a prison elsewhere in South Carolina, which is a transfer rather than a community release.
